Description of Task
Before we started our coursework we needed to produce a short video to introduce to the filming and editing process. During the we had to obey a certain criteria of containing the 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot and match on action editing.
The 180 Degree Rule
The 180 Degree Rule is a rule in filming that means a camera cannot come past a line in the set to avoid confusion when the audience is viewing the film. this means the camera has 180 degrees of movement when filming.
Shot Reverse Shot
A shot reverse shot is a way of filming a conversation between two people on screen. This is done by switching between shots depending on who is talking in the scene, this shot work well as over the shoulder shots can be included to help the audience feel more immersed in the scene.
Match on Action
Cutting on action or matching on action refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. An example in our preliminary task is me walking up to a door and reaching for the handle, then the door staying the same openness as I pass through it.
Continuity Editing
Continuity editing is an editing technique which gives the impression that actions within the scenes flow sonstantly like real time. This editing technique can help scenes flow more naturally.
Evaluation
We filmed our Preliminary Task in the Media Office as it contained a door and seats facing each other which means it already had a good setup for the 180 degree rule. The lighting was also good as it contained both a window for nature light and a ceiling light for unnatural light.
We were able to record and edit the Preliminary Task quickly and to a good standard through good team work and already existing knowledge in making videos. However if we could re film the preliminary task i would put more time into preparing and planning the shoot rather than jump straight in. However i felt the whole process went well considering it was our first time walking together.
